PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS:

Please download the game onto your computer to play the best version (click the Download button at the bottom of this page, unzip the file and double-click on the exe file). If you are playing the browser version, do not put it in full-screen mode as it is still buggy.

To participate in my research project, simply complete a short survey after testing out as many features of the game as possible, such as: the Save and Quit options in the in-game menu, loading your saved file from the Main Menu in both Classic and Active Mode to test the differences in combat, casting the battle spells Fire2 and Slow in Active Mode, and defeating the Dragon boss (in either mode).

See below for controls, and enjoy!

Background Information:

This demo was developed for my dissertation that explores how turn-based combat may be innovated in order to satisfy the modern gamer. It contains a Classic mode, which is defined by it's Pokemon-esque battle system, and an Active mode, for which the flow of time during battles matter, turn order can be changed with spells, and special quicktime events provide variety in gameplay.

The base version of this JRPG was designed with a classic turn-based battle system containing a move list for attacks, random encounters with a range of enemies, a levelling and stats system for players, a shopping and inventory/equipment system, an in-game menu and a save/continue system. There is also a dialogue system and quest system, so the game can be expanded in narrative structure. Finally there is a boss and quest line, making the game playable from start to finish in a complete gameplay loop.
